Michaela Ryan Posts 1:58 200 Free at Australian Age Champs Day 4

Following her 55.19 4×100 free relay lead-off yesterday, 16 year old Michaela Ryan posted a 1:58.91 to win the girls 16 200 free by over 2.5 seconds. Ryan’s best time going into the meet was 2:02.30, then she went 2:01.50 in prelims. Her last 3 50 splits were very consistent, going out in 27.67, then posting splits of 30.38, 30.64, and 30.22 respectively. Csongor Cellie took the boys 16 200 free with a 1:51.43, beating runner-up Silas Harris (1:52.15) by .72 seconds. Cellie took nearly 2 seconds off his previous best time of 1:53.16.

Matthew Temple won the boys 17-18 100 fly with a 52.58, shaving a couple tenths off his previous best time of 52.85. He was out in 24.89 and back in 27.69, both of which were the fastest splits in the field. That time puts Temple just under half a second of the Australian Age Record for 18 year old boys of 52.09. Joseph Hamson took the boys 14 50 free with a 23.93, marking the first time Hamson has been under 24 seconds.

Joshua Edwards-Smith won the boys 15 100 back by 1.1 seconds, posting a new best time of 56.72. That took nearly a second off his previous best of 57.53, and put him just .54 seconds off the boys 15 Age Record of 56.18. Elizabeth Dekkers took the girls 13 200 fly with a 2:15.18, shaving over half a second off her previous best time of 2:15.77. Kate Harrison, who won the girls 13 100 fly with a 1:00.98, and split a 27.3 fly on the medley relay yesterday, swam the 100 free today instead of the 200 fly. Harrison tied for 1st with Paris Burlock in the 100 free, going 56.68. That marked a personal best by about 1 second for both swimmers.

Jenna Forrester took the girls 14 400 free by over 6 seconds, posting a 4:14.16. That time was just off her personal best of 4:13.97. Kai Thomas won the boys 13 100 free with a 54.35, finishing about half a second ahead of the field. Thomas’ time took about half a second off his previous best of 54.91. TJ Chong Sue won the boys 14 100 breast, dropping over 2 seconds to go 1:06.33.
