Grosse Pointe Gators swimmer Alex Hughes has given her verbal commitment to the University of Michigan. She will begin swimming with the Wolverines in the fall of 2017. Hughes is currently a senior at Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. She is a long-time member of the Grosse Pointe Gators Swim Club under the coaching of John Fodell.
“With Michigan, I know I will be getting a world class education along with world class swimming from Coach Bottom, Bishop, and Brager. The girls on the team have already welcomed me with open arms. I can’t wait to be a Wolverine next fall. GO BLUE”
Hughes is a Winter National qualifier in the 100 breast. She has also competed for the Gators at 2015 Winter Junior Nationals and at the NCSA Spring and Summer Championships (2013-2016) in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
The current LCM Open State Champion for Michigan in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM, her best times are:

Hughes is a 2-time USA Swimming Scholastic All American. She will join her Gators teammate, Jacob Montague, in Ann Arbor along with fellow Grosse Pointe South alumni, Ali DeLoof, Gabby DeLoof, Catie DeLoof, and Jackie DeLoof.
