The University of Wisconsin hosted the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan on Saturday, January 15th for senior day. None of the teams suited up. This was the first meet that Wisconsin hosted spectators in their new pool.
Women
The Michigan women dominated most of the meet winning 11 out of 16 events (including diving). SwimSwam’s Swammy Award Winner for NCAA Female Swimmer of the Year, Maggie MacNeil, led the way for the Wolverines winning both the 100 (52.73) and 200 (1:54.88) backstrokes. In both races, she beat out Wisconsin’s Phoebe Bacon who swam to second place finishes. MacNeil also made an impact on Michigan’s relays as she led off the winning 200 medley relay (1:38.90) in a 24.63. She also was on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:18.49) splitting a 49.29 on the leadoff leg.
Michigan freshman Letitia Sim and senior Olivia Carter also had two individual wins. Sim won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.02), the 200 breaststroke (2:13.44), and split a 27.85 on the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay. Carter won the 200 butterfly (1:56.76), 100 butterfly (53.80), and split a 24.11 on the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay.
Wisconsin was led by sophomore Phoebe Bacon. In addition to her second place finishes in the 100 (53.67) and 200 (1:55.68) backstrokes, Bacon earned the victory in the 200 IM swimming a time of 1:58.76. She won the race by almost two seconds as no other swimmer broke the 2:00 in the event.
Freshman Hannah Cornish led the way for the Minnesota Gophers as she swam to a victory in the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.21. She also earned second place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.88) and the 50 freestyle (23.13).

- 200 freestyle: Abby Carlson, Wisconsin (1:49.50)
- 50 freestyle: Lindsay Flynn, Michigan (22.99)
- 1 meter diving: Joy Zhu, Minnesota (298.65)
- 500 freestyle: Kathryn Ackermann, Michigan (4:50.21)
- 3 meter diving: Lucy Hogan, Michigan (314.50)
Men
The Michigan men also dominated most of the meet winning 9 out of 16 of the events. Senior Jared Daigle led the way as he captured individual victories in the 200 backstroke (1:45.05) and 200 IM (1:46.85). In the 200 butterfly, he finished a close second in a time of 1:47.39 right behind freshman teammate Gal Groumi who won in a time of 1:47.32. Groumi also captured the individual victory in the 100 butterfly (47.69).
Wisconsin was led by freshman Yigit Aslan who captured victories in the 1000 freestyle (8:59.35) and the 500 freestyle (4:21.06). He won the 1000 freestyle by almost 13 seconds as second place finisher, Michigan’s Connor Hunt, swam a time of 9:12.19.
Senior Max McHugh led the way for Minnesota winning the team’s only two individual event victories. He swam to a time of 52.28 in the 100 breaststroke and a time of 1:56.23 in the 200 breaststroke. McHugh holds the #2 time in the NCAA this season in the 100 breaststroke and the #4 time in the 200 breaststroke.

- 100 freestyle: Bence Szabados, Michigan (44.32)
- 1 meter diving: Tazman Abramowicz, Wisconsin (351.60)
Wisconsin has their next meet scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd at Northwestern. Michigan has their next meet planned for Friday, January 28th at Big Ten rival Ohio State, and Minnesota has their next meet scheduled at home as a tri-meet against Northwestern and Iowa on January 28th and 29th.
First time I’ve heard of a 200m race for Maggie…👏👏. Have wondered what speed endurance she could carry into a 200 free, back, fly or IM, especially scy or SCM.
She did a 200 fr at a dual meet last January against IU. 1:47.00 she has also done a few 200Im’s at some other dual meets
