Michigan Lakeshore’s Elle Giesler Verbally Commits to NC State

Holland, Michigan’s Elle Giesler has announced her verbal commitment to North Carolina State University for 2019-20. The Holland High School junior will be the second in her family to swim in Division I of the NCAA; her older sister Anna Giesler is currently a sophomore on the Purdue women’s swimming and diving team.

Giesler is a free/fly specialist who swims under head coach Jim Whitehead at Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics. She was runner-up in the 200 free (1:51.98) and took sixth in the 500 free (5:08.88 in prelims) as a sophomore at the MHSAA Girls D2 Swim & Dive Championships in November of 2016 but didn’t compete in her junior season. She has focused on the shorter end of the range since then and has made significant strides. That includes improving by 2.8 seconds in the 200 free, by 3.5 in the 100 free, and 1.7 in the 50 free. She has also taken 3 seconds off her 100 fly time and 4.4 off her 200 fly. The three freestyle PBs were achieved at Winter Juniors; the latter two, at last month’s Akron Sectionals.

Giesler had an outstanding summer season last year, winning the 100/200/400 free and 200 IM, coming in second in the 50 free, and placing 7th in the 100 fly, to win the 15 & Over Girls High Point Award at the Michigan Swimming 13 & Over Long Course State Championships. She finished the summer with new PBs in all six events.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.44
  • 100 free – 50.27
  • 200 free – 1:49.18
  • 100 butterfly – 55.97
  • 200 butterfly – 2:04.36

Giesler will join Faith Hefner and Maddy Flickinger in the Wolfpack’s class of 2023.
