Michigan men post some off-event wins in sweep of Michigan State

The Michigan Wolverine men got to try out a new-look lineup in their regular season-ending dual meet with Michigan State Saturday. The defending NCAA champs threw some big names into some interesting off events in winning all 16 events vs the Spartans at home.

Kyle Whitaker was the only double-winner for Michigan. He won the 100 breast (55.19) and 100 fly (48.39) – that 100 breast was an interesting race for the Blue. Behind Whitaker was butterflyer John Wojciechowski, who’s been called on to fill in a backstroke spot this season, and third was miler Connor Jaeger. Wojciechowski was 56.99 and Jaeger 57.04.

Jaeger got to show off some of his sprinting speed at this meet, winning the 100 free in 44.38 over the top of teammate Hassan Abdel Khalik, who won the 50 for the Wolverines. Jaeger also led off a 200 free relay, putting up a 20.6.

Butterflyer Dylan Bosch tried his hand at the 200 back, winning in 1:50.36, and in the next event, Wojciechowski got to swim breaststroke again, going 2:02.98 in the 200. That wasn’t enough to win, though, as he took second to teammate Kyle Duckitt, swimming his main event.

Michigan won both of the relays, splitting up studs to produce some inter-team racing. The winning medley relay team, technically the “C,” touched out the A team by .03. Notable on that relay was a fast 24.1 breaststroke split from Richard Funk.

Timothy Faerber won both diving events for the Wolverines, scoring 324.68 on 1-meter and 329.40 on 3-meter.

Michigan State got a pair of solid swims from Nathaniel Weeks. Weeks was second in the 200 fly in 1:51.35 and also pulled off a third place 100 fly finish, just .06 out of second.

The final score was 172-103 in favor of Michigan.
