Michigan State Hires Florida St. Volunteer Quentin Bishop as New Assistant

The Michigan State swimming & diving program has hired Quentin Bishop as its new assistant coach. He fills the role left by the the departure of Conner Snare, who joined the program mid-season last year.

This is Bishop’s first full-time Division I position: he spent lat season as a volunteer assistant at Florida State after a year as an assistant at his alma mater: Division II Truman State.

“I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to work with such a young and talented team as well as a knowledgeable staff at Michigan State,” Bishop said. “Coach Gianiodis has created an amazing culture here and I am eager to start contributing to make this team the best it can be in any way I can.”

Bishop graduated from Truman State in 2017, where as both a junior and a senior he finished 18th at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship meet in the 1650 free.

Bishop worked at Stanford University as a Summer Swim Camp Coach. He also worked with Club Seminole as an assistant coach.

MSU and Illinois are in desperate need of a change. And yet here they are ten years later battling it out for who can not DQ a relay to see who is better. Utterly pathetic. ADs should be appalled

Perhaps a men’s team would help Illinois.

Bad facilities is no reason for a team to be consistently awful. Plenty of schools in Michigan including GV and Wayne state have poor facilities still do better than state

Okay D2 All star, I would love to see your times and then we can talk about what is awful. Facilities have a lot to do with recruiting, you would know that if you were a good enough swimmer to be recruited at a D1 level. Lots of plans for MSU facilities are being put into place, outdoor pool is shut down for renovations already. Next season will be the first time that MSU will have more than 3 coaches on deck, thats a given at any other college swim program across all divisions. Go be a hater somewhere else, im sure your letter got trashed when you sent it to state

Reminder to all college athletes: the kind of “rah rah, us against the world” stuff that you guys throw around in the locker room to get jacked up just makes everyone else cringe and roll their eyes.

Not sure if I read you right but Quentin will be the third coach. Also, there is no doubting that there is more than just facilities hurting the team.

If any of y’all haters got $30 million to build a new pool and endow the program- please, give the athletic director a call.

How is pointing out the fact that they have been consistently awful with awful facilities “hating”? The MSU swimming program has been nothing short of awful for the past decade, that is a fact.

TSwim…….not sure anyone here is hating. MSU is a B1G program that swims in a below average high school quality facility. I wonder where all of their $$ could’ve been going over the last few years? 🤔

Definitely not hating, just stating fact. I know they don’t have great facilities.

Hell just make him the head coach. They can’t do any worse than they’re doing currently.

When is the last time that MSU was even respectable?

Interesting question. Turns out they were more than respectable 52 years ago. Team finished 8th at 1967 NCAAs. Ken Walsh won the 100 45.67. They hosted the meet.

maybe he can do for MSU what Brian Barnes did for Purdue. Lord knows both schools head coaches are letting down lots of kids.

Women:
2019, 6th Purdue (of 13 teams)
2018, 6th Purdue
2017, 6th Purdue
2016, 5th Purdue
2015, 5th Purdue
2014, 4th Purdue (of 12 teams)
2013, 5th Purdue (of 12 teams)
2012, 7th Purdue (of 12 teams)
2011, 5th Purdue (of 11 teams)

While not at the bottom, Purdue women have definitely stagnated for 9 years. They are about 100± points behind the next highest placing team the last couple years. Let’s see how their recruiting class does…

Men:
2019, 4th Purdue (of 10 teams)
2018, 4th Purdue
2017, 6th Purdue
2016, 6th Purdue
2015, 4th Purdue
2014, 5th Purdue
2013, 5th Purdue

Men higher finishes is when diving is outstanding because coach is world class. And other years diving is still significant. If u just took swim points vs others they would always be bottom third with top third facilities and academics.
