Michigan State Picks Up 2 With Verbals From Abbey Neveling, Erin Szara

The Michigan State women will be adding 2 more members to their freshman class next season, as Abbey Neveling and Erin Szara have both given their verbal commitments to join the Spartans next season. Szara will be staying in state when she heads to MSU next fall, while Neveling will be making the move from New Jersey.

ABBEY NEVELING:

Neveling currently trains club with the Jersey Wahoos, and will graduate from Haddonfield Memorial High School at the end of this school year. She brings some versatility to the table, as she swims the sprint freestyles, breaststrokes, and IMs.

Last season, Neveling was a 2-time finalist at the New Jersey Public State Team Tournament. There, she picked up a pair of 7th place finishes in the 100 breast and 100 free. She then went on to compete at the 2016 NCSA Spring Junior Nationals, where she swam the 50 through 200 breaststrokes, 50 through 200 freestyles, and 200 IM.

Neveling’s Top Times:

  • 50 free- 23.77
  • 100 free- 52.08
  • 200 free- 1:53.58
  • 100 breast- 1:04.00
  • 200 breast- 2:19.97
  • 100 back- 59.36
  • 200 IM- 2:06.87

ERIN SZARA:

Szara, a native of Michigan, currently trains club with South Lyon Aquatics. She also competes for Northville High School during the high school season.

Last season, Szara qualified to compete at the 2015 Michigan Girls Division 1 State Championships, where she cracked the top 16 with an 11th place finish in the 100 breast. She’s already made a big drop in her 100 breast this season, as she finished 2nd place at the 2016 MISCA girls meet last month with a personal best 1:04.68. She also finished 42nd in the 200 IM at that meet with another best time at 2:18.99.

Szara’s Top Times:

  • 100 breast- 1:04.68
  • 200 breast- 2:30.25
  • 200 IM- 2:18.99
