Michigan’s Kyle Whitaker Added to 2013 US World University Games Team

After Cory Chitwood seems to have hung up his goggles for good, having taken an assistant coaching job with the LSU Tigers, a spot was left open on on the American roster for the 2013 World University Games. That spot in the men’s 200 IM was filled by Michigan junior Kyle Whitaker this week.

Whitaker earned this spot by virtue of his 4th-place finish in the event at the U.S. Open in August with a 2:01.08. Chitwood was 3rd in 2:00.84.

Whitaker will swim that race alongside Cal’s Adam Hinshaw.

The full roster, updated with Whitaker, is below. This bumps the Michigan Wolverines up to three swimmers on the roster: Whitaker, Michael Wynalda, and Sean Ryan.

The 2013 World University Games will be held in Kazan, Russia.
