Mid-Distance Freestyler Nick Plachinski of Ozaukee Aquatics Commits Verbally to Minnesota

Cedarburg High School senior and Ozaukee Aquatics’ Nick Plachinski has given his verbal commitment to swim for the University of Minnesota. Plachinski, a Wisconsin state division 1 champion in the 200 free and runner-up in the 500, will be joining the Golden Gophers starting with the 2015-16 season.

“I really enjoyed Minnesota ever since I traveled up there for the Grand Prix meet last winter. The coaching staff is great and it’s a great group of guys on the team. I am extremely excited to be a gopher.”

Plachinski is a nice get for Minnesota, who has an enormous senior class to replace. He’ll have some good company in the distance lanes with his times:

500y free: 4:30.56            400m free: 4:03.35
200y free: 1:40.71            200m free: 1:54.80
1000y free: 9:27.88          800m free: 8:35.78
1650y free: 16:00.66        1500m free: 16:24.21
200y fly: 1:51.78

Plachinski is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 400m free and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 200m and 500y free.

“Minnesota just felt like home for me. The entire team felt like a family when I was there on my official visit and that was exactly what I was looking for.”
