ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams combined to win 25 events during the Navy Invitational held Saturday at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.

The field for the non-scoring meet featured the Mids, American, Bucknell, Lafayette, Shippensburg and UMBC.

“It was very beneficial to have one more day of competition before the start of our championship season,” said Navy men’s swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  “Everyone is really focused on what the next few weeks will bring.”

“It was a great day of racing and being able to honor our senior class,” said Navy women’s swimming head coach John Morrison.  “We found today to be very helpful in our training for the league championships.”

Sydney Harrington (Sr., Fairfax, Va.) posted a trio of individual event wins for the Navy women’s team.  She won the 200 fly (1:59.96), 200 free (1:48.95) and 50 free (23.31) events.  Joining her with multiple victories was teammate Hannah Montau (Sr., Germantown, Md.), who scored 276.25 points to win the one-meter diving competition and 322.60 points to place first on the three-meter board.

Two members of the Navy men’s team also recorded a pair of victories on the day.  Pat Colwell (So., New Canaan, Conn.) won the 200 IM (1:52.25) and 50 free (20.72) races, while Everet Andrew (Fr., Wilmette, Ill.) posted victories in the 1650 free (15:59.69) and 200 free (1:42.33) events.

Additional winners for the women’s team in the first half of the meet were Cameron Horner (So., Hebron, Md.) in the 500 free (4:53.72), Brooke West (Sr., River Forest, Ill.) in the 100 back (55.85), Riley Gavigan (So., East Setauket, N.Y.) in the 100 breast (1:02.84) and Megan Murphy (Fr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the 100 free (51.35).

Members of the Navy men’s team to win events before the intermission were Oli Smith (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) in the 500 free (4:39.65), Jackson Schultz (Jr., Millersville, Md.) in the 100 breast, Garrett McGovern (So., Nashville, Tenn.) in the 100 free (45.62) and Blakeman Shaw (Fr., Coral Gables, Fla.) in the one-meter diving competition (300.60).

The second half of the meet saw Rachel Schlemmer (So., Sterling, Va.) win the 400 IM (4:28.25), Madison Milbert (Sr., Kingston, Mass.) win the 200 back (2:01.34) and Reagan Johnson (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.) place first in the 200 breast (2:18.71) for the women’s team.

Completing the list of winners for the men’s team were Jakob Frick (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va.) in the 200 breast (2:00.38) and George Moore (So., New Cannan, Conn.) on the three-meter diving board (330.35).

Both Navy teams also won the 200 medley relay.

Navy now heads into the championship portion of its season, starting with the Feb. 16-19 Patriot League Championship in Lejeune Hall.
