Mikkel Gadgaard, Meghan Lee & Leah Braswell Named SEC Swimmers of the Week

Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Mikkel Gadgaard, Auburn

Auburn’s Mikkel Gadgaard, a sophomore from Esbjerg, Denmark, won both the 200 and 500 freestyle with a pair of NCAA B-cuts at the Auburn Invitational. Gadgaard, who already holds the program record in the 500 free, moved up into a tie for sixth all-time in Auburn history in the 200 free with a time of 1:34.12. His 500 free time from the meet (4:16.30) is fifth-fastest in the SEC this season.

Men’s Diver of the Week: Kurtis Mathews, Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s Kurtis Mathews, a senior from Sydney, Australia, won the 3-meter springboard at the Air Force Diving Invite with a school-record score of 486.95. Mathews was runner-up in the 1-meter with a score of 426.40, finishing behind teammate Victor Povzner.

Men’s Freshman of the Week: Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero, Florida

Florida’s Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero, a freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina, earned three podium finishes at the Auburn Invitational. Gonzalez Pinero took first in the 200 fly (1:45.03) and the 200 IM (1:46.56) and placed third in the 400 IM (3:48.82).

Women’s Co-Swimmers of the Week: Meghan Lee, Auburn and Leah Braswell, Florida

Auburn’s Meghan Lee, a sophomore from Timonium, Md., earned three podium finishes at the Auburn Invitational. Lee captured second place in both the 200 fly (1:57.91) and the 200 IM (1:57.59) with NCAA B-cut times. She was a part of the 200 medley relay that finished third (1:36.77), and her backstroke split of 24.32 is the 19th fastest time in the nation.

Florida’s Leah Braswell, a senior from Manchester, Pa., won two individual events at the Auburn Invitational. Braswell touched the wall first in the 500 free with a time of 4:45.11 and the 1650 free with a time of 16:24.29, both NCAA B-cut times. She also finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.79.

Women’s Co-Divers of the Week: Elizabeth Perez, Florida and Aimee Wilson, Texas A&M

Florida’s Elizabeth Perez, a senior from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, swept the springboard events at the Auburn Invitational. Perez won both events with season-best scores of 316.40 on the 1-meter and 339.90 on the 3-meter. She also finished third on platform with a score of 280.05.

Texas A&M’s Aimee Wilson, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, won both springboard events at the Air Force Invitational. Wilson captured the top spot on the 1-meter with a score of 306.20 and on the 3-meter with a score of 352.00.

Women’s Freshman of the Week: Avery Bargeron, Auburn

Auburn’s Avery Bargeron, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., swept the butterfly events at the Auburn Invitational. Bargeron posted NCAA B-cut times to win the 100 fly (52.43) and the 200 fly (1:55.99). She moved into eighth place all-time in program history in the 200 fly, and her time in the 100 fly made her ninth-fastest in Auburn history.
