Mile Runner-up Ross Dant on Watching Teammate Will Gallant Win: “My heart was pounding”

2023 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

NC State Wolfpack went 1-2 last night in the 1650 free; Will Gallant took first with a 14:28.94 and Ross Dant took second with a 14:30.32. Dant’s seed time was ranked 13th going into this meet, placing him in the “morning heats” of the mile. He dropped 14.5 seconds from his seed time and launched himself to a very comfortable 1st place position with just that night’s A final left. Gallant and Dant recall what it was like watching each other swim, in anticipation of reaching their goal of going 1-2 this year.
