WHEATON, Ill. – The Milwaukee women’s swimming team won all 11 events on the night to cruise to a 162-42 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) Friday evening at Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.
The Panthers dominated with a team effort, with Makaila Scheiblein the only swimmer to win multiple events. MKE also topped the Thunder in both relay races.
Scheiblein claimed the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke to lead the charge.
The winning started with the first event of the meet, seeing Kylee Radigan, Scheiblein, Megan Greenley, and Nhia Caras edge out the 200 medley relay by just over a second in 1:50.42.
Scheiblein led a 1-2-3 finish for the MKE women in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 24.72 to edge out the 24.96 of teammate Natalie Hey. Just .13 behind that was Molly Meland, third in 25.11.
Scheiblein also won her race in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.08.
Antoni Haupt was tops in the 1000 freestyle, finishing in 10:39.17. Erika Thomas finally came in second on the campaign, checking in with a showing of 10:42.53 in her first attempt at long distance this season.
Mara Freeman claimed the 100 backstroke in 57.95, beating out teammate Brianna Vanden Burgt’s time of 1:01.38.
Vanden Burgt did earn a win of her own, leading the way in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.62.
Meland (58.14) edged Caras (59.91) for first in the 100 butterfly, while Kelen McDaniels (53.74) and Grace Mayes (54.84) put on a 1-2 battle in the 100 free.
Thomas did go 1-for-2 on the night, winning the 500 free in a clocking of 5:13.29 to finish well ahead of second-place Meghan Jagdfeld’s time of 5:21.93.
The 400 IM featured another 1-2-3 finish for the team, seeing Giulia Guerra-Montes (4:40.41), Bri Zablocki (4:47.17), and Riley Melendy (4:47.22) take the top three spots.
McDaniels, Jagdfeld, Greenley, and Caras then closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay in a season-best 1:37.64.
Up next, the season rolls on with a trip to the three-day House of Champions Invitational, hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis. Day one of the event is set for Thursday, November 17.
WHEATON, Ill. – The Milwaukee men’s swimming team featured eight different event winners and also took one of the two relays to claim a 142.5-61.5 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) Friday evening at Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.
The Panthers lineup spread the wealth up and down the lineup to top the Thunder for the 20th straight time in the all-time series.
Following a close defeat in the 200 medley relay to open the night, Milwaukee then put it in high gear and started picking up victories.
The next three events featured 1-2 finishes for the team, starting with Jack Garcia in the 1000 freestyle. Garcia claimed the event in a time of 9:53.25, with Mason Schoof second in 10:20.69.
Next was the 200 freestyle, seeing Jacob Weber get the win in 1:45.95 to top Zach McClellan by just under a second (1:46.89).
The 50 freestyle was also razor-thin, with Jackson Ahrens grabbing the top spot in 21.47 and Jared Bruce runner-up in 22.15.
Jay Jensen paced a 1-2-3 finish in the 400 IM for Milwaukee, touching the wall in 4:08.74. Vince Chiappetta was second in 4:19.94 but picked up win of his own in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.34. That was a 1-2-3 finish for the MKE men, joined by Jackson Hodek in second (4:58.33) and Andrew Innerebner in third (5:06.31).
Schoof paced a 1-2 showing for the Panthers in the 100 freestyle in 48.38 to top teammate Nathan Rozeboom, who was just behind in 49.58.
Nik Wheeler won the 100 backstroke (53.81) and Hayden Christiansen the 100 butterfly (52.14 to Hunter Johnson’s 52.65) to round out the list of individual winners.
Jensen, Johnson, Garcia, and Ahrens then closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay in 1:25.09.

Wheaton, Ill. — The Wheaton men’s and women’s swim teams kicked off their busy weekend this afternoon with their second home dual meet of the season, as the Thunder hosted the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. The visiting squads triumphed in both competitions, as the Milwaukee men topped Wheaton, 142.50-61.50, and the Panther women’s team defeated their Thunder counterparts by a score of 162 to 42.
The 200 yard medley relay was the first event of the day, and the Wheaton women’s contingent of Olivia Wiebe, Elli Bennett, Abby Pardridge, and Sophie Pelling came in second place with a combined time mark of 1:51.41, besting the third-placed Panther grouping by 0.5 seconds.
Katie Yonan put in a quality performance on Friday afternoon, as the sophomore claimed a pair of top three finishes. First, she led the way for the Thunder in the 200 yard freestyle with a second-place 2:00.16 time, a comfortable two seconds faster than the next Milwaukee swimmer. Later, Yonan swam to a third-place standing in the 100 yard version, as she earned a mark of 55.07 seconds. Scottie McKeaney touched the wall just .07 seconds after her teammate to claim fourth.
Elli Bennett registered a second place finish of her own in the 100 yard breaststroke, edging out her Panthers counterpart in third place by a mere .01 seconds. Abby Pardridge built off her relay success by being the only Thunder swimmer to earn a top four standing in the 100 yard butterfly, with the senior posting a 1:01.27 time mark. Olivia Wiebe continued the positive opening to her collegiate career via a third-placed finish in the 500 yard freestyle swim, topping her fourth-placed Milwaukee competitor by a full six seconds.
The Wheaton women ended the day’s action with another second place finish in a relay event, this time coming in the 200 yard freestyle race. Scottie McKeaney joined forces with Yonan, Pelling, and Pardridge to earn runner-up status with a collective time of 1:39.99.
The meet got off to the perfect start for the hosts on the men’s side when a Wheaton relay team consisting of Abe Plimpton, Anthony Fitzgerald, Kael Gannon, and AJ Staiti claimed first place in the 200 yard medley event. The upperclassmen group began the day with a statement performance, finishing the swim a full 2.39 seconds ahead of their nearest challengers.
Fitzgerald cemented his strong showing by winning the 100 yard breaststroke event with a finals time of almost exactly one minute, a comfortable four seconds faster than the second-place Milwaukee swimmer. David Stevenson earned third place in the same race. Fitzgerald was also the highest Thunder finisher in the 100 yard butterfly, touching the wall just .03 seconds ahead of teammate Harrison Smith. Smith took third place and led Wheaton in the 200 yard free with a 1:48.19 time mark.
AJ Staiti placed just as high in the 50 yard version, as the junior registered a time of 22.44. Abe Plimpton continued his solid start to the season with a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke event, as the senior clocked a finals mark of 55.08, narrowly edging out his tailing Panther opponent.
The Thunder will not have to wait long for another chance to earn their first team win of the young campaign. Wheaton hosts Franklin College in a dual meet tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM.
