BROWN DEER, Wis. – The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving team put together an impressive performance Saturday at the All-Wisconsin Showcase held at the Schroeder Aquatic Center, winning all 14 individual events as well as both relays.

The dominant outing included multi-victory afternoons from Erika ThomasGiulia Guerra-MontesMakaila Scheiblein, and Julie Rebek.

“It’s always an interesting day bringing in six other teams, and everybody is in a different part of their early season,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “We are still building into our events, but on the women’s side we show the depth of the talent we have across every single individual event.”

Thomas continued her amazing start to her collegiate career, winning three more times today in the 100 freestyle, 400 IM, and 200 butterfly, as well as being a part of both winning relays. Guerra-Montes picked up the wins in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, Scheiblein the 100 and 200 breaststroke (and both relays), and Rebek led the way in both diving events.

“It is coming from all classes,” Clements said. “We have Ricky (Thomas) winning three events, we have Nhia (Caras) winning, we have Kelen (McDaniels) winning, Makaila (Scheiblein) … it’s coming from different classes. We are senior top-heavy, so it’s great to see the underclassmen step up and start filling out big roles that we will need in the future.”

The showcase included Milwaukee as well as teams from Green Bay, Oshkosh, La Crosse, Whitewater, Carthage, and St. Norbert. The event featured no team scores.

“After a long week … and this is a long meet … we were still able to stack better times than what we had done previous,” Clements said.

Thomas continues to impress and has now won all five individual races she has competed in over the first two weeks of the season. Today, she topped the field in the 100 free in a time of 53.04, the 200 fly in 2:07.86, and the 400 IM in a showing of 4:37.00.

Guerra-Montes racked up victories in the 200 IM in 2:14.02 and 200 backstroke in 2:07.31, while Scheiblein led the charge in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.62) and 200 breast (2:22.86).

Rebek led a 1-2 MKE showing on both boards, posting a 276.98 total on the 1-meter board and a 296.70 total on the 3-meter. Teammate Therese Missiaen was runner-up on both boards, going 249.90/1M and 264.53/3M.

It was quite a day for the squad overall. Nhia Caras led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 50 freestyle, winning in a closely-contested 24.33. Kelen McDaniels was second (24.57), Meghan Jagdfeld third (24.63), and Natalie Hey fourth (24.80).

The 100 freestyle was a duplicate finish, with Thomas leading the charge for the team to take the top four spots: Grace Mayes (54.93), Hey (55.11), and Brianna Vanden Burgt (55.37) completed the finish.

Jagdfeld led the way with a win in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.76, with Allie Buytendorp touching the wall second in 1:58.53.

Antoni Haupt paced the 500 freestyle in 5:16.09 to win by almost 10 seconds, while Mara Freeman led a 1-2 finish for MKE in the 100 backstroke. Freeman won in a time of 58.02, with Molly Meland second in 59.03. Freeman was also second in the 200 back in 2:08.11.

McDaniels was the only competitor to crack the one-minute mark in the 100 butterfly (59.34), with Meland (1:00.06), Jagdfeld (1:00.08), and Brianna Homontowski (1:00.79), making for quite the close and dominant finish to the event for Milwaukee.

In addition to her win in the 200 IM, Guerra-Montes was second in the 400 IM in 4:43.34. Melendy was second to Guerra-Montes in the 200 IM as well (2:14.29).

In the relays, the 400 free team of Scheiblein, Jagdfeld, Megan Greenley, and Caras won by over six seconds, touching the wall in 3:37.09. In the 200 medley relay, Meland, Scheiblein, Thomas, and Caras won by almost two seconds in a time of 1:48.15.

BROWN DEER, Wis. – Jared Kleczka and Jay Jensen each won a pair of events to highlight the top finishers for the Milwaukee men’s swimming & diving team Saturday at the All-Wisconsin Showcase held at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.

Kleczka, the reigning Horizon League Diver of the Week, continued his strong start to the new season by topping the field on both boards. Jensen came through for the Panthers in the 400 IM and led a very strong showing for MKE in the 500 freestyle with a second individual victory.

“The men are growing into their season and we are getting really good production out of a lot of different stroke groups,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “Each day, each week, we are seeing a lot of positives in our training and a switch in our mental prep and what we expect from ourselves on a day-to-day basis. You are starting to see this team realize they have a lot of good swimmers and they are starting to put their races together. We are starting to see that mind-shift of ‘we can be faster’.”

Other event winners for the Panthers included Zach McClellan in the 100 butterfly and Nik Wheeler in the 200 butterfly.

Kleczka topped a field of 12 on the 1-meter board with a score of 310.28. He followed that up with a victory on the 3-meter with a 349.50 total.

MKE claimed both butterfly events, with McClellan winning a tight race in the 100 fly (52.03 to 52.83) and Wheeler a little more room in the 200 fly in 1:55.33 to defeat McClellan’s runner-up effort of 1:57.61.
