With the 2015 FINA Junior World Championships now underway in Singapore, we’ve seen a slew of records fall already after the first prelims session. One of those records came in the women’s 100 back, where Australia’s Minna Atherton posted a 59.83.
Atherton shattered the previous Junior World Championships Meet Record in the 100 back, which was a 1:00.59 done by Peru’s Daryna Zevina in 2013. This was well under the time she came in with, as she entered the meet with a 1:01.18.
Atherton’s Splits- 59.83: 28.86/30.97
Notably, Atherton was also under the latest confirmed Junior World Record in this event. That belonged to Russia’s Daria Ustinova at 1:00.25 done in 2014.
Unoficially, however, the record belongs to Team USA’s Claire Adams. Adams was a 59.58 at the 2015 U.S. Nationals, but that swim has not yet been ratified by FINA as the official Junior World Record.
Adams was the only swimmer entered into the meet with a sub-1:00 time, so Atherton putting herself into the mix makes things interesting. The women swam next to each other in prelims, finishing 1-2 in heat 6. Adams clocked a 1:00.46 for the 2nd seed overall.
The Champion Coach David Lush does it again!!! How long until he receives the acknowledgement he truely deserves from his counterparts and rest of the Australian swimming community?
BGS Swim Club now officially (or unofficially) best backstroke club in the world. Watch out world for David Lush and the BGS Swim Club!!!
