For the first time in program history, the Minnesota Golden Gophers will head to Tallahassee, Florida to take on the Florida State Seminoles. The meet marks the start of the 2015-16 season, and is set to be contested at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
“Florida State’s coaching staff is outstanding and they have a strong, young team like us and it’s exciting to go into an unknown environment,” head coach Kelly Kremer said. “It’s a team and conference we don’t get to compete against very often. I think it will be great for our program.”
Assistant coach Gideon Louw has ties to Florida State, having served as a graduate assistant swimming coach for two years prior to joining the Minnesota coaching staff in 2014.
At the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the Florida State men’s team finished just behind Minnesota’s 25th-place. Last season on the women’s side the Gophers placed 12th, while the Seminoles took 24th.
The Seminoles’ roster boast 18 rookies, while the Golden Gophers welcome 29 on the freshmen squad.
