Press Release courtesy of Minnesota Athletics

It only took one meet for freshman Mackenzie Padington to be recognized on a conference wide level. Following impressive performances in the Gophers victory over Florida State, Padington earned Big Ten Women’s Swimmer and Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Big Ten Conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Padington in her first event as a Golden Gopher captured a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.85. Her 200 free final time ranks 13th all-time in the program top 25.  She also captured first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.77, ranking her 18th all-time in Minnesota swimming history. Along with giving 18 individual points to the Maroon and Gold, Padington also swam in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

The No. 17 Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team captured their first dual meet win of the season with a 153.50-146.50 victory over No. 23 Florida State last Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.

Minnesota returns to the pool on Friday, Oct. 27 as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to talk on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten dual meet beginning at 5 p.m.
