Missouri Gets Verbal from KY High School State Runner-Up Amanda Smith

Erlanger, Kentucky’s Amanda Smith verbally committed to swim for the University of Missouri for 2017-18, telling SwimSwam, “I have recently verbally committed to the University of Missouri. I am very excited to continue my swimming and academic career here!”

Smith is a senior at Notre Dame Academy and the runner-up in the 100 back (55.80) at the 2016 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships. Smith also finished fifth in the 200 free (1:50.08) and led off Notre Dame’s 200 medley relay (26.47). She also swims year-round for Northern Kentucky Clippers, with whom she competed at U.S. Olympic Trials this summer in the 100m back and 200m back. She finished 9th in the 200m back and 12th in the 100m back at Speedo Summer Juniors and also competed in the 200m free (24th), 200m IM (37th), and 400m IM (33rd).

Her top times are:

  SCY LCM
50 back 25.86 30.23
100 back 54.73 1:02.88
200 back 1:55.45 2:13.44
200 free 1:49.31 2:04.84
200 IM 2:02.30 2:20.88
400 IM 4:18.94 5:02.74

Smith would have scored in the B final of the 200 back at 2016 SEC Championships and is very near scoring range in the 100 back. Missouri’s top scorer in the both distances, Nadine Laemmler, will have graduated by the time Smith suits up, but she will be able to train with A/B-finalist Hannah Stevens and C-finalist Maddie Gehrke.

“I am very excited to be a tiger next year! I loved everything about Mizzou and couldn’t ask for a better team to be a part of. I have an old teammate, Sharli Brady, already swimming there, and I look forward to being able to represent The University of Missouri!”

Smith will be part of the Tigers’ incoming class of 2021 with fellow verbal commits Caitlin Clements, Emily Snyder, and Lauren Savoy.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].
