Missouri HS State Champion William Jost Sends Verbal To Purdue (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

William Jost has announced his verbal commitment to Purdue University, beginning in the fall of 2024. Jost is a native of Chesterfield, Missouri, where he attends Parkway Central High School. He also trains and competes year-round with Parkway Swim Club.

Jost shared his commitment on Instagram:

Jost is a pure sprint freestyler. This past November, he won both the 50 and 100 freestyle at the Missouri High School State Championships in best times of 20.70 and 45.29. On his team’s winning 200 freestyle relay, Jost threw down an anchor leg split of 20.22, as well as a 20.24 on the winning 200 medley relay.

He went on to compete at Winter Juniors – West, where he lowered his best time in the 50 free even further to 20.58 to finish 28th overall. He also raced the 100 free (46.07) and time trialed the 200 free, where he notched a personal best time of 1:42.95.

Jost recently wrapped up his short course season at the Missouri Senior Championships, where he again collected wins in the 50 (20.93) and 100 freestyle (47.15). He also swam the 100 fly, where he logged a personal best time of 52.37.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 20.58
  • 100 free – 45.29
  • 200 free – 1:42.95

Purdue is coming off of a 6th place finish at the 2023 Big Ten Championships. Earlier this spring, Alex Jerden was named the new men’s head swimming and diving coach, replacing long-time head coach Dan Ross who announced his retirement this spring.

It took a 20.41 and 44.43 to score at Big Tens in the 50 and 100 free this year, meaning Jost is just outside range with his current best times. Leading the sprint squad for Purdue was sophomore Brady Samuels and sophomore Idris Muhammad. Samuels advanced to the A-final in the 100 free where he took 5th (42.41), while Muhammad finished 12th in the 50 (19.63). Both Samuels and Muhammad will overlap with Jost for a year, which should help Purdue build up their sprint depth.

Jost joins Dominic Mazurek, Walker Mattice, and Gage Johnson in the Boilmakers’ class of 2028. Jost is the lone sprinter of the group so far, but Mattice swims mid-distance to distance freestyle.
