Missouri State Earns Verbal from YMCA 200 Breast National Champ James Doromal

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

James Doromal of Carol Stream, Illinois has announced his verbal commitment to Missouri State University for the 2020-21 season. A breaststroke/IM specialist, Doromal swims for NW DuPage YMCA / B.R. Ryall Swim Team and attends Bartlett High School, about 40 miles west of Chicago. He was recognized by USA Swimming in 2017 with an invitation to the USA Swimming National Diversity Select Camp.

Doromal won the 400 IM national title at this summer’s YMCA Long Course Nationals, going 4:31.56 for a personal best by 3.3 seconds. He was runner-up in the 200 breast (2:22.46), fourth in the 200 IM (2:08.86), 11th in the 100 breast (1:06.53), and 14th in the 50 breast (30.61). All times were lifetime bests. In short-course season, he clocked new PBs in the 100 free (48.63), 100/200 breast, and 200/400 IM at YNats and was an A-finalist in both breaststrokes and both IMs.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 breast – 2:02.15
  • 100 breast – 57.01
  • 400 IM – 3:53.72
  • 200 IM – 1:50.27

Doromal’s top times would have been a big help to the Bears at 2019 MAC Men’s Championships where Missouri State finished second to the Miami RedHawks by 58.5 points. He would have scored in the A finals of the 200 breast (with then-senior Blair Bish and freshman Alexander Stamatin), 200 IM (with conference champ, senior Artur Osvath, and junior Thomas Heye), and 400 IM (with junior Antonio Thomas and seniors Minki Kang and Bryce Blattner) and the B final of the 100 breast (with sophomore Aaron Keesling). Doromal will have an opportunity to step up and fill the void left by Osvath, Bish, and the rest of the juniors and seniors. He will overlap with Stamatin and Keesling.

“I am excited to continue my academic and athletic career at Missouri State University!  I would like to thank everyone that has helped me along the way coaches, family and friends! Bear up!”
