CLEVELAND, Ohio – Michael Claunch of the Missouri State men’s swimming and diving team was named Mid-American Conference Diver of the Week, the league announced Wednesday (Jan. 20).
Claunch, a senior from Houston, Texas, bested the field in the 1-meter dive with a score of 306.37 to receive a zone cut. In addition to winning the 1-meter dive, Claunch also placed second in the 3-meter dive, registering a 319.27 score.
“Michael has been working hard for his senior year,” Missouri State diving coach Jim Huelskamp acknowledged. “He had been battling a bad ankle sprain that kept him off the boards for a couple of weeks. To see him come back with that performance, he really showed his commitment to finish strong this year.”
Claunch is the second member of the MSU men’s swimming and diving team to earn MAC weekly honors joining Robbie Hill, who earned swimmer of the week honors back on Nov. 11.
The Bears will continue the 2020-21 season Thursday (Jan. 21) when they travel to South Bend, Indiana, for a showdown with No. 21 Notre Dame.
