Missy Franklin Drops 100 Free, Ends Mesa Meet Early

Missy Franklin scratched the 200 backstroke pre-session on the final day of the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, but about 15 minutes into Saturday morning’s session, she Tweeted that she would also be pulling out of the 100 freestyle. That ends her meet in Mesa a day early.

“I wanted to let everyone know that I won’t be competing today,” Franklin Tweeted out at 9:11 Pacific Time. “I haven’t been feeling 100% so I’m taking the day to rest – coaches orders! I’m disappointed that I won’t be racing today for those of you coming to the meet to watch but thank you for all of your support!”

Franklin swam 2 of the 4 events she was originally scheduled to race at the meet, which included winning the B-Final of the women’s 200 free in 1:58.64 and placing 5th in the 100 back A-final in 1:01.28.

There are no haters of Missy. Some people just have more realistic expectations of what she can do at this point in her career.
