Missy Franklin Prepping for Big Double Tonight, “Sluggish” Yesterday

2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS

After securing seventh place in the 100 backstroke semifinal last nightMissy Franklin still plans on swimming the 100 backstroke final and the 200 free semifinal tonight.

“I feel really, really good this morning,” she said. “So definitely felt a little sluggish last night, so I think it’s really good that I had a race this morning to kind of get out, race, get those cobwebs out. And tonight’s a double, and those are my favorites, so it’s time to really step up.”

Franklin says she was “not happy with [last night’s race] at all.”

Some fans were positing that perhaps she was having lingering back issues, but Franklin shut down those concerns.

“No. No, no, no,” she said when asked if her back was acting up. “Just pretty sluggish last night, yup, but no excuses. Just going to come out tonight and give it my all.”

Would just love to see Missy and Natalie as 1-2, in either order!

Whatever happens this week and/or in Rio she needs to step back and reassess. Using Dana Volmer as a role model at this point might be good. Go work with Milt Nelms, get her body back to where it can produce what she is capable of.

Where have you been for the last few months then? There have been loads of articles on her and even more comments expressing support, especially in the last week.

No she’s the only one that entered the 100 back at Trials.

hardy har har. there is a reason she gets most coverage than others. she accomplished more in 2012 than you have in your entire life so put some respec on it.

Missy was incredible in London, but London was four years ago. Now is what matters. The athletes rising to the occasion in Missy’s wake deserve more recognition for their incredible performances. If someone like Olivia Smoliga makes the team it’s because she worked for the spot, not just because Missy lost it.

I hate how everyone is writing her off. She hasn’t missed anythign yet. No one knows what will happen. Even if things don’t go well this time around she can always switch coaches like that one australian backstroke girl did. more race pace specific training is all she needs. maybe she could train with a certain someone in lawrence kansas.
