Missy Franklin stars on “Beyond the Medals – The Business of Sport” (Video)

Olympic champion Missy Franklin starred on a Universal Sports television program called “Beyond the Medals – The Business of Sport.”

Franklin, one of the world’s most marketable athletes, just turned pro this spring after two collegiate seasons with the Cal Golden Bears of the NCAA. That college career culminated in a team title at the 2015 NCAA Championships and a Swimmer of the Year award for Franklin.

In the Universal Sports program, Franklin talks about her transition into professional athletics and the major financial and career decisions she’ll be making in the next few years.

“I am myself, I am Missy, and what you see is what you get,” Franklin says in a Universal Sports promo for the show. “I want to be with companies that really represent what I believe in and things that I’m proud to be represented by. So the philanthropic side is a huge part for me, and giving back, and being a part of companies that are about changing the world, making it a better place and inspiring others.”

Universal also says USA Swimming CMO Matt Farrell and USOC President Scott Blackmun join Franklin to help round out the financial world the young swimmer is plunging into.

Franklin will compete with Team USA at the 2015 FINA World Championships later this summer in Kazan, Russia.

I wish the interviewer in this piece was more knowledgeable about swimming, because I don’t feel like I learned anything I about Missy that I didn’t already know from reading articles on this website. If one of the SwimSwam staff members had been able to conduct the interview, I’m sure it would have been much more enlightening.
