With less than six months until the start of the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships, IPC Swimming published the provisional competition schedule for the meet. The meet will be hosted at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Scotland from July 13th to July 19th. The World Championships meet is a month earlier this year than it was in 2013. The official program will be released in June after all of the entries are submitted. Meet organizers expect more than 650 athletes from more than 50 countries will compete this year in the 7th IPC World Championship meet.
The 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships closed with 43 new world records set and 172 gold medals awarded. Nearly 480 athletes from 53 countries competed at the Championships in the first event of its kind in North America. Ukraine topped the medals table with Russia second and Great Britain third. The United States finished fifth in the medal count with 11 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals.
The number of events appears to be the same with the exception of the mixed relay. This will be the first time mixed relays are a part of the IPC World Championships. On the first day of competition, there will be a 20 point mixed 200 freestyle relay.
Over the last two years, this facility has hosted multiple international competitions including the 2013 Duel In the Pool and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
