Mizzou Snags Verbal from Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Lauren Savoy

Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Lauren Savoy has committed to the Missouri Tigers for the 2017-18 season.

I’m so excited to go to Mizzou next year! The team, coaches, and academic opportunities are amazing! I felt right at home! Can’t wait to be a tiger!

Savoy, who also swims for Marcus High School, was a high finisher at the 2016 Texas 6A HS Championships. The distance-oriented Savoy touched 3rd in the 200 free (1:49.92) and 7th in the 500 free (4:55.30), after winning the UIL 6A Region 2 titles in both events. Her best times in each (found below) came from that regional meet, where she set Marcus HS program records in both.

The high point winner at the 2016 Austin Futures Championships this past summer after winning titles in the 200 IM and 100 breast, Savoy is the LAC record holder for the 15& up division in the 200m IM as well as in several relays.

Top Times

Event Time
200y Free 1:49.78
500y Free 4:51.54
1650y Free 16:58.16
200y IM 2:05.44
400y IM 4:21.99

Mid-distance and distance free are the strong points for Savoy, though she also brings strong IM speed to the table. Additionally, Savoy notched impressive LCM breaststroke times of 1:13.06 and 2:36.06 in the 100 and 200, respectively, this summer.

Savoy is about four seconds off of what it took to make C finals in the 500 free and 400 IM at the 2016 SEC Champs. Mizzou only had one scorer, Kira Zubar in the mile last year at SECs, while no Tigers scored in the 500 free.

Adding distance free depth, Savoy will also join a strong IM group headed by junior Sharli Brady and senior Ellie Zuek.
