Columbia, MO, November 20, 2014 – The Mizzou Invitational started off with a very loud bang this morning, as Mizzou senior Dani Barbiea raced her way to the first “A” cut of the 2014-15 NCAA swim season. Barbiea’s time of 51.51 in the women’s 100y butterfly lit up the board at Mizzou Aquatic Center, undoubtedly clearing the “B” cut of 51.70. Her 51.51 time now tops the country’s college rankings, overtaking the previous NCAA-leading time of 52.12 by Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell.
Mizzou Teammate, sophomore Andrew Sansoucie, clocked the fastest prelim time in the men’s 100y butterfly race, earning the top seed in 47.40. This time now ranks Sansoucie thrid in the NCAA and eclipsed his time at this same invitational last year, where his final 100y butterfly time was 48.94 to earn fifth overall.
Abby Duncan (Mizzou) was the only swimmer under the 2:00 mark in the women’s 200y IM, as her time of 1:59.96 earned her the number one spot heading into the finals. Mark Darragh from Mizzou swam the fastest time on the men’s side in a 1:49.09.
The eyebrow-raising race of the morning belonged to redshirt junior Matthew Margritier (Mizzou). His 19.41 in the 50y freestyle now leads all NCAA men, overtaking the previous number one time held by Kristian Gkolomeev from Alabama, which sat at 19.50. With the “A” time standard positioned at 19.25, we could possibly see Margritier take things up a notch in the finals tonight to be the first man to clear an NCAA A standard thus far this season.
The Mizzou Invitational’s finals session begins tonight at 6pm central time.

They seem to have left out Michael Chadwick’s 200IM time of 1:44.90 which puts him ahead of all NCAA men in the country.
Barbiea did the same thing last year around this time and then failed to better her time at NCAAs. I would like to her go faster at NCAAs…
Agree, that would be nice. Problem for NCAAs was that 3 weeks before the meet (right after SECs) she got sick and was out of the water/sick for a full week. She was not tapered for SECs. Would have been good to see her compete, healthy. Same problem Stewart had. She spilt 50.6 FL on MR tonight.
And at Art Adamson, Manuel got an A cut in the 50….here we go, folks! 🙂
Not seeing Max Grodecki. Has he transferred or just not swimming anymore?
He left the team late last season for for personal reasons.
