Money to the Tigers: Auburn picks up verbal from Carolina Aquatics’ Katie Money

Call it a cash infusion: Auburn has picked up a verbal commitment from Carolina Aquatics breaststroker Katie Money.

Money comes out of Columbia, South Carolina, where she attends the Ben Lippen School and swims for Carolina Aquatics swim club. She’s a breaststroker who branches out into freestyle races as well:

Money’s Top Times

  • 100 breast: 1:06.05
  • 200 breast: 2:25.81
  • 500 free: 5:01.94

Money is definitely a swimmer Auburn is bringing in for her upside. “I chose to swim at Auburn because they trust my potential enough to give me a chance to be able to prove myself at the collegiate level,” Money said. “Everything there, the team, the campus, and the coaches, just felt so right!”

Money is actually pretty good going up towards the 1000 free as well. That would give Auburn an interesting choice with her third event – that kind of endurance might bode well for a 200 IM based on a big breast/free half, but it all depends on how she develops in the other two strokes. Regardless, Money will likely focus primarily on the breaststrokes early as she tries to crack the lineup for Auburn, which finished 4th at last year’s SEC Championships.

Omg I know her

David Marsh gave me a shot nearly 20 years ago. I believe Katie will prove she is one of the best. Building the base doesn’t always require the fastest swimmer out of club swimming. It involves personality, a belief in themself, a way to bring a smile to the pool deck. As I learned at Auburn, positive energy creates fast swimming. The team will benefit and I know the Auburn team will bring her along. WAR WAGLE!

Katie is the most devoted swimmer I know. She deserves this more than anyone, and I know she’ll be great.

One of the hardest workers I’ve ever been around, never takes her talent for granted. Has the ability to brighten anyone’s day. GO KATIE!
