There was a question why Wang Jianjiahe skipped the first Kazan/Doha cluster. It will help her much in the competition for the win of World Cup.
There were suggested several possible reasons, like school duties for instance. But the answer can be very simple: there’s no magic of Wang JianJiahe in LCM races. In Kazan/Doha LCM cluster Wang could earn at most $6,000 that would barely cover the airfare, the accommodation and other travel expenses. And why do I think so? Because in no way she could score high FINA scores being measured against Katie Ledecky’s records. In SCM it is not Ledecky’s, but Mireia Belmonte’s records and a great opportunity for the talented swimmer to shine and to… Read more »

Is the 82 points advantage against Wang Jianjiahe enough for Sarah Sjostrom to win world cup. It is 27 points for each remaining stop. Not that much if to remember that each world record earns 20 points plus gives at least 6 points advantage in stop bonus points.
And Wang Jianjiahe looks very consistent with her races all season long from PSS stop in March when we first saw her with 4:03 and 8:18 through the Asian Games and at this European cluster of World Cup. I won’t be surprised if she improves her personal best (that is world record) in 400 at least once and that she breaks Belmonte’s world record in 800 that she approached very closely… Read more »

I doubt very much a young swimmer like Wang will be able to keep WR form for two whole months. Was probably tapered for the races in Europe, while Sjostrom will likely taper in some capacity for Asia for a big pay day as she probably won’t be going to SC Worlds.

Michael Andrew at $50K plus already… I wouldn’t hate for that to be my payout over a couple months of racing at age 19.

He’s a Russian, born and raised. I think he only swam in the US for high school and uni.

If you’re interested in reading more…we actually have a very good article from Josh Bratter on this topic in the upcoming issue of SwimSwam Magazine.

About Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
