MOR’s Jacki Schoening Gives Towson Their First Verbal

Raleigh, North Carolina’s Jacalyn (Jacki) Schoening has opted to head north to Towson, Maryland for her collegiate career. She gave the Tigers her verbal commitment this week and will join the class of 2020 in the fall of 2016.

“I chose Towson because of how welcoming everyone on the team was and how their program is run. Their campus is clean and beautiful and I cannot wait to spend the next four years there. The team is like a family and a very close group of people that I cannot wait to be a part of.”

Schoening grew up in Buffalo, NY and moved to Raleigh when she was 9. She has swum for Marlins of Raleigh for the past 8 years, where she has developed into a strong 100/200 breaststroker. Schoening was instrumental in Leesville Road High School’s ninth-place team finish at the 2015 North Carolina 4A State Championships, finaling in the 100 breast and the 200 medley relay.

Schoening’s top times over the past year were:

100 yard breast – 1:05.71
200 yard breast – 2:23.40
100 meter breast – 1:15.35
200 meter breast – 2:43.79

Towson women are coming off their third consecutive CAA championship title, and have reloaded the roster with 24 new faces. With freshmen making up 53% of the team, there will be a lot of shifting in the lineup, but the Tigers are nowhere near as deep in the breast and fly as they are in the long-axis strokes, so Schoening will be a welcomed addition to the squad next year.
