Newburgh, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Director Jessica Mushel has announced the hiring of Randy Erlenbach to lead the Men’s and Women’s Swimming program. Erlenbach comes to the Mount with both Division I and Club experience, with his most recent college coaching experience coming at the University of North Carolina.

Erlenbach was a four-year letter winner at Duke, earning co-captain status his Senior year. He held the school record holder in the 400-yard individual medley.

“I appreciate the opportunity that Jessica Mushel and Trevor Purcell have given me. I am very excited and grateful to be the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach at Mount Saint Mary College,” said Erlenbach upon his appointment.

Upon graduation from Duke, Erlenbach moved into coaching at ACC rival Clemson where he served as the recruiting coordinator and Head Coach for the Clemson Aquatic Team.

From 1991-2007, Erlenbach served as an assistant coach at North Carolina while also holding the head coaching position for the North Carolina Aquatic Club. In his coaching role for the Tar Heels, Erlenbach coached everything from sprint events to distance events. He mentored 41 individual ACC champions, 28 school record holders, 12 All-Americans, 12 qualifiers for various USA Swimming teams and contributed to 15 ACC Team titles.

Erlenbach also owned SwimStart while in North Carolina, a learn to swim program in Chapel Hill from 2002-2008. After moving to Connecticut to be the Head Coach of the Wilton Y Wahoos, he owned, operated and managed the learn-to-swim program, the Greenwich Swim School, in Greenwich.

From 2009 through April of 2020, Erlenbach was the Senior Director of Aquatics at the Wilton YMCA in Wilton, Conn. While at Wilton, he successfully coached teams to nine National YMCA titles and coached six National Team members, six U.S Olympic Trial Qualifiers in 2012 and 2016 and an Olympic Game qualifier representing Antigua-Baruba.

“Coach Erlenbach brings a wealth of swim knowledge and professionalism to our men’s and women’s swim programs. We are very excited to have him join our Knight Family, and are looking forward a bright future for our swim programs,” said Mushel.

Erlenbach currently resides in Brookfield, Conn.
