EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 13, 2021) – Mount St. Mary’s men’s water polo turned in a winning score Saturday, using stellar defense throughout and 10 second-half goals in a victory over Penn State Behrend.
Jason O’Donnell led in the goal count for the Mountaineers, scoring six goals in seven tries. Alex Hoy, Kiahi Horan, and Zach Fischer all recorded multi-goal efforts. After being honored on Senior Day, Marko Kruska saved seven shots and helped the team pitch a shutout of the third quarter.
It was a sluggish start for the home team as the visiting Lions pounced to a 3-1 advantage. O’Donnell supplied a late goal to pull the Mount back within one. That set up a 4-0 run to start the second quarter, giving Mount St. Mary’s the lead for good.
Nine different players logged goals in the game. Jaden McNeal-Villafana scored for the second straight day, and Nate Hopkins and Carter Zwirz registered goals for the first time since the Harvard Invite.
The regular season ends Sunday (Nov. 14) with a doubleheader against Navy and Bucknell. Games are 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the ARCC Swimming Pool.
