After Friday morning prelims Southlake Carroll is seeded to win both the men’s and women’s 5A State Championship title.
On the men’s side, Junior Jonathan Roberts leads the team in 1st place seeds in the 200 free (1:39.62) and 500 free (4:29.68). SMU commit Bryce Klien is also seeded first in 1 meter diving and attempting to break Drew Livingston’s state record tomorrow.
Southlake Carroll girls try to hold off 2011 state champions Humble Kingwood going into finals tomorrow. The 200 medley and 200 free relays are seeded second behind Humble Kingwood and the 400 free relay is seeded 1st after Friday morning prelims. Diver Lauren Crown is first after the preliminary round of 1 meter Diving.
Southlake Carroll Coach Kevin Murphy on today’s swims: “In the sport of swimming you have good races, medium races, and not so good races. Today we had more good and medium races then we have had all season. Some of our swimmers struggled today and our goal for tomorrow for those that struggled is to just improve. Something special about our team is that even the ones that struggled stepped up for the relays. This group is very team-oriented”
Other notable swims, The Woodlands scratched swimmers, including Wisconsin commit Cannon Clifton, in order to beef up their top seeded 200 medley and freestyle relays. Cannon Clifton is also seeded first in the 100 free with a 44.09.
Keller Timber Creek and Louisville commit Aaron Greene is also seeded first in the 100 back with a 48.92.
Junior Laura Norman from Keller is the top seed in the 200 IM (2:04.63) and 100 Back (55.44).
UIL Class 4A State Championships- Prelims
Highland Park girls are setting themselves up to take home their 12th of the last 13 state titles. First event of the meet, HighlandPark’s 200 medley relay of Annelyse Tullier, Kate Boyer, Meredith Kelly, and Ann Claire Karalyos broke the class 4A state record with a 1:47.68. Highland Park shows freestyle strength with Annelyse Tullier and Lauren Murski breaking 1:53 to earn the top two seeds in the 200 free and sprinter Kate Boyer taking the 50 (23.78) and 100 free (51.95).
Lubbock High school and Texas commit Madisyn Cox shattered two Class 4A State records in the 200 IM (1:59.77) and 100 Breast (1:03.13).
Houston Stratford leading 4A boys state meet with swift relay and individual swims. Duke commit Michael Miller is the top seed in 200 IM (1:48.98, New class 4A state record) and 100 Fly (49.86). Sprinter Alec Willrodt also swam the fastest times this morning in the 50 (20.77) and 100 free (45.85). Both 200 medley and 400 free relay are seeded first setting up Houston Stratford as the favorites for the 4A Boys State Championship.
Texas 4A State Championship Finals starts at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon.
