On the heels of the Japanese Olympic Trials, the 46th National Junior Olympic Cup Spring Swimming Tournament wrapped up at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
Junior high schoolers and senior high schoolers took to the pool to demonstrate rising talent within the nation hoping to cultivate talent to replace the aging elite.
We reported how 34-year-old Ryosuke Irie missed his 5th Olympic Games squad and some speculate his retirement announcement is imminent. National record holder Takeshi Kawamoto also missed making the Paris squad and retired.
However, the results from this JOC were positive, with several records biting the dust to pave the way for the next generation.

Crazy up and coming talent. JOC is always a blast. Having competed myself once, it is an incredible atmosphere. Excited to see how they grow, and if they can contribute to our senior teams considering the little drought we’ve been experiencing for a few years now.
Did Okadome swim the 200 breast and if so, what was his best time? I cannot find the results in English.
No he didn’t. But he he also swam the 50 breast in 26.40 which also happened to be a new high school record.
Thanks.
I live in the Bay Area, California and looking forward to watching Okadome swim in college.
