Munster’s Mya Bailey (2022) Stays In-State, Verbals To Purdue

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Munster Swim Club’s Mya Bailey has announced her verbal commitment to Purdue for the fall of 2022. Bailey primarily specializes in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Purdue University! I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and family who have helped me along the way. Your guidance has been instrumental in getting me here! Also, thank you to the Purdue Swimming and Diving family!! I can’t wait to get started!!” #Boilerup! 💛🖤💛🖤

Bailey recently competed at the USA Swimming Future Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. She raced the 100 free, 100 back, and 200 back and managed to drop a personal best in the 200 event by over 6 seconds. For reference, she was a 2:29.91 in June before dropping to a 2:23.73 a month later.

Her best times (SCY) include:

  • 50 free – 24.42
  • 100 free – 53.31
  • 100 back – 55.56
  • 200 back – 2:04.58

Bailey received USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors in 2021 for her performances in the backstroke events combined with her achievements in the classroom. Each year, USA Swimming recognizes high-school aged athletes that have a 3.5 GPA or better and, for the 2020-2021 academic year, had qualified for the 2019 Winter Junior Championships.

Based on last season’s results, Bailey would be ranked as the 4th-fastest in the 100 back and the 5th-fastest in the 200 back at Purdue. Notably, her 200 back best time, which is a Futures cut, was achieved in 2019 when Bailey was only 14 years old.

Purdue is an NCAA Division I program that competes out of the Big Ten Conference. At the 2021 Women’s Big Ten Championships, Purdue finished 9th out of 13 teams with 414 points. At the 2021 Women’s NCAA Championships, Purdue finished 20th overall with 56 points, which were scored exclusively from divers.

Bailey will join Regan Mattice, Grace Lux, Ana Rojas, Kelsey Cooper, Abby Marcukaitis, and Ashley Lund as members of Purdue’s class of 2026.
