Mustang Quartet Selected For World University Games

DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU women’s swimming team will send four student-athletes to the World University Games held in Gwangju, South Korea, July 2-14 at the Nambu University International Aquatics Center. Rising juniors Marne ErasmusKirsty McLauchlan and Tara-Lynn Nicholas will represent South Africa, while Nathalie Lindborg, who recently completed her eligibility, will swim for Sweden. Swimming events will take place July 4-11.

The trio from South Africa is part of a 20-person team with swimmers who also represent the University of Arizona and Texas A&M University.

All-Americans Erasmus and Nicholas were part of SMU’s 2015 NCAA team, both swimming on the Mustangs’ 200-yard freestyle and 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams. Nicholas also placed 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Erasmus tied for 15th in the 100-yard butterfly. McLauchlan posted `B’ standard times in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200- and 400- yard individual medleys.

At the South African Short Course Championship in Durban, Nicholas won the 50-meter breaststroke, while finishing second in the 100, and tied for fifth in the 50-meter freestyle. McLauchlan was twice named the runner-up (200-IM, 400-IM) and was third in the 200-meter freestyle, and Erasmus had her highest placement in the 100-meter butterfly at third.

Trelleborg native Lindborg, who is part of a nine member Swedish team, also made the trip to the NCAA Championship as part of all three Mustang relays. She also competed at the 2015 Team Canada trials, posting ‘B’ standard qualification times for the World Championship in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle.
