Natalie Grothe to join Colorado State Rams roster for 2015-2016

Natalie Grothe, Nevada breaststroker and sister to Auburn grad Zane Grothe, will swim for the Colorado State Rams next season in a late commitment announced by the team today.

Natalie Grothe was actually a member of the high school class of 2014, graduating from Boulder City High School last spring after a high school career that saw her place multiple times at the Nevada state meet in a range of events.

Grothe took a gap year last season, but will make her collegiate debut for Colorado State beginning this fall, according to CSU coach Christopher Woodward.

“We’re excited about adding Natalie to our roster,” Woodard said in the team’s press release. “She is just coming back to the sport after an extended layoff, but she is talented, hard working and comes from a swimming family. She has the potential to make an impact on our roster.”

Grothe had solid high school state finishes in the 100 breast, 200 IM and 50 free, but she projects mostly as a breaststroker and occasional freestyler for the Rams.

Grothe’s Top Times

  • 100 breast – 1:06.35
  • 200 breast – 2:31.26
  • 50 free – 25.05

Grothe should have room for some big improvements in college, considering her best times in the 100 and 200 breast come from 2011 and 2010, respectively.

She swims for Desert Storm Swimming out of Nevada as well as Boulder City High School.

Grothe is the younger sister of former Auburn distance man Zane Grothe, who rose to become one of the best distance swimmers in the nation over his four-year college career.
