Natalie Webb Commits to American University for 2023 With Team Leading Times

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Making the short drive south from Gaithersburg, Maryland to Washington DC, Natalie Webb has announced her college commitment for this fall, electing to continue her education and swimming career at American University. Webb is currently a senior at Col. Zadok MaGruder High School, where she served as a captain during her senior season. She was named a Potomac Calley Swimming Scholar Athlete every year of high school.

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at American University! Big thanks to my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me along the way. So excited for the next 4 years. Go Eagles!!❤️💙”

Webb finished her high school career earlier this spring at the 2023 MPSSAA 3A/4A Swimming and Diving Championships. For the second straight year, she was a two event A-finalist in the 200 and 500 freestyles. Her top finish came in the 500 free, where she came home with the bronze medal in a lifetime best of 5:03.53. She also added a second personal best in the 200 free, taking fifth in 1:54.97.

In the long course pool, Webb finished in the top-32 of both the 400 and 1500 freestyles last summer at the 2022 Eastern Zone Senior Championships while representing Rockville Montgomery Swim Club. Her top finish was in the 1500, where she took 20th in 18:53.62. She also added a pair of top-8 finishes as a member of relays, taking fourth in both the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 fly – 59.84
  • 200 fly – 2:10.31
  • 200 back – 2:11.21
  • 100 free – 55.04
  • 200 free – 1:54.97
  • 500 free – 5:03.53
  • 1650 free – 17:59.51

When Webb arrives on campus this fall, she’ll be a big addition to American’s mid-distance freestyle group, with times that would have been among the program’s best this season. During the 2022-2023 school year, her lifetime best in the 500 free would have been the program’s fastest, while her 200 free would have ranked her second behind current sophomore Marissa Kleckner.

American is coming off of a season that finished with a seventh-place finish out of ten teams at the 2023 Patriot League Championships. The team was led by junior Mimi Watts, who was the gold medalist in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly. Watts was named as the Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Meet for her efforts, marking the first time an American swimmer has won the award since 2006.

With Webb’s lifetime bests, she would have been just outside scoring range at the 2023 Patriot League Championships. This year, it took 1:51.79/5:01.47 to earn second swims in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

When she arrives on campus this fall, Webb will just miss getting to swim with former Rockville Montgomery Swim Club teammate Maddie Mara, who was a junior on the team this season but will graduate this semseter. Mara, who transferred to American following a stint with the University of Massachusetts, holds the American University pool record in the 100 breast.
