The 2017 Dolfin ISCA Junior Championship cup kicked off Tuesday with the women’s 200-yard medley relay. The Virginia Gators touched with a combined time at 1:39.21 breaking the 15-16 National Age Group Record. The previous record was set by SwimMac (1:39.61). The team of Emma Muzzy(24.97), Caroline Kulp(28.86), Olivia Bray(23.15), and Whitney Hamilton(22.23) finished over two seconds faster than second place.
Later that evening the same group of girls broke the 200-yard free relay 15-16 National Age Group Record with the time of 1:30.99. Again breaking the record set by SwimMac in 2012.
The Virginia Gators also took a first place finish in the mens 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Noah Bowers(22.79), Keith Myburgh (24.93), Angelo Russo (21.25), and Khalil Fonder (20.45) touched with the combined time of 1:29.42. The same group later won the 200-yard freestyle relay touching at 1:22.77.
The women’s open 1650-yard freestyle was won by Allison Bloebaum of the Mason Manta Rays with the time of 16:23.22. Bloebaum dropped over 7-seconds and swam her way to the twelfth-fastest time in her age group this season.
Emily Hetzer of Occoquan, swam to gold in the 16 & Under 1650-yard freestyle with the time of 16:23.34. This gives her the sixth-fastest time for 16-year-olds this year after dropping an impressive 31-seconds from her seed time.
Greg Reed of the Virginia Gators took a 9-second drop in the 1000-yard freestyle with the time of 8:57.30. Reed now holds the fourth fastest age group time this season. Reed will be attending the University of Georgia next fall.
