National Teamer Hellen Moffitt Joins Fike Swim

Fike Swim is excited to announce the addition of World Championship gold medalist Hellen Moffitt to its growing team of ambassadors. Hellen was a standout at The University of North Carolina, where she earned silver at the 2017 NCAA Championships in the 100 fly and All-American honors 9 times for her butterfly and backstroke achievements. She is now one of Team USA’s top butterfliers.

“I used The Brick throughout college and experienced firsthand the positive impact it had on my training. It’s an innovative tool created by an innovative company that truly understands summers’ needs. I am excited to join Fike Swim as an ambassador and look forward to what the future holds!” said Hellen.

Hellen is currently training at Team Elite’s east coast site in Charlotte, NC. As she prepares for the 2018 U.S. Nationals, 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and ultimately Tokyo 2020, Hellen is developing her post-swimming career in supply chain management for Foodbuy USA. She will also help Fike Swim test and roll out more of the innovative products it is becoming known for.

“I’m honored to be working with Hellen. She’s the epitome of what it means to be a swimmer, taking on, and excelling in, two hyper-competitive worlds at the same time- corporate America and USA Swimming. She’s an incredible role model,” added Fike Swim founder James Fike.

You can support Hellen on her journey to Tokyo by following her Instagram and Twitter pages, and you can get the latest Fike Swim news, product updates, and videos by liking them on Facebook and subscribing to their YouTube channel. About Hellen Moffitt
Here’s a short Q&A with Hellen. The complete Q&A with post-workout meals, season and practice goals, and more can be found by visiting Fike Swim’s ambassador profile page.

Q: What is your favorite event?
A: “50 fly – because it’s fun!”

Q: How many yards per week do you usually swim?
A: “A high volume week for me would be between 6,000-6,500 per workout so around 55,000 yards per week and a low volume week would be between 5,000-5,500 yards per workout or 47,000 yards per week.”

Q: What is one of your favorite sets?
A: “This was one of my favorite sets we used to do at UNC. It focuses on back half of 100 speed
which is something I always like to work on. The interval allows for enough rest to recover while
still forcing you to manufacture speed.

The set is:

  • 40x50s fly (or primary stroke) on :50 long course
  • Odds smooth, evens second 50 of 100 goal pace
  • I would usually hold 29.9/30.0 for the first ten and 29.5 for the second ten”

Q: How did you get into swimming?
A: “One of my neighbors who I really looked up to was on our community swim team. My
mom and I would walk down to the pool every Monday night to watch her swim in the
weekly swim meets. I thought it looked like fun, and decided I wanted to join the swim
team. I was only 4 and you had to be able to swim one lap in order to join the Little
Dolphins, so that summer I hopped in the pool and swam a full lap of backstroke. The
following summer I joined the team and have been in love with swimming ever since!”

Q: What is something most people probably don’t know about you?
A: “In my elementary school yearbook all the 6 th graders had to include a quote with their future
aspirations. Mine were swim for UNC, become a professional swimmer, and open a small pastry
shop. Two down one to go!”

About Fike Swim

“We design products exclusively for the toughest sport in the world.  We unapologetically place swimmers on a pedestal.  The rigors they embrace on a daily basis can only be understood by another swimmer and they deserve a company focused 100% on helping them succeed.  Whether you’re just starting out or training for Tokyo, we stand behind you.”

-James Fike, Founder

Fike Swim Products was born when founder James Fike put a brick on top of a kickboard and transformed just another legs-only kick set into a total body workout felt into the next day.  Since then it’s been our mission to create unique swim equipment with the single-minded goal of making you faster. We don’t sell toys. We create tools to help you reach your potential.
