There has been discussion about which USA Swimming World Championship Team members would compete in Nationals next week, and we finally have our answer with the release of team-by-team rosters for the meet. USA Swimming has also now released psych sheets, though these are not necessarily final entries.

The biggest outcome of this meet will be entries for the Pan Am Games, though World Championships swimmers aren’t eligible for the Pan Am Games per USA Swimming rules. The meet will be held at the massive outdoor aquatics center at Stanford University in California.
This will be a huge meet, with over 1,800 entered swimmers. Matt Farrell, of USA Swimming Marketing, confirmed that there’s usually closer to 1,200 entries at Nationals.
With so many entries, everyone can search through for their favorite swimmers, but I did a few quick searches. A big name that stands out is Ed Moses, who’s a 2000 Olympic silver medalist in the 100 breaststroke and is making a comeback. We’ve seen him a lot in Masters swimming, but now we’ll see him and Brendan Hansen, who’s in a similar situation, against the best in the country.
Missy Franklin, about who there’s been much discussion since her awesome World’s swim in the 200 free on a relay leadoff, is trying a few different events, like the 50 free and 200 IM, along with her 100/200 free and back.
As you can see, the vast majority of the team will be swimming.

it would be interesting to see who is out there to eventually replace lochte and phelps in some of their events. it is unlikely there will be another phelps with the entire repertoire, at least not in my life time !
How much will travel and the relatively un -climatic atmosphere of Nationals after Worlds effect some of the swimmers coming back from China?
I was surprised their were not a few quicker swims from some of the relay only swimmers and their time trials.That atmosphere has got to get you pumped more then nationals i would think..
Another swimmer to watch for is going to be Justin Lynch from Terrapin. At the Clovis Sectionals, he went a 54.80 to break Michael Phelps’ NAG record by nearly a second and qualify for Olympic Trials. AT 14 YEARS OLD.
Very true, I like your analysis and I do believe most of those questions will be answered when he swims at nationals in a few weeks. Can’t wait to see what he can do both now and next year at Olympic Trials!
Yeah Braden he went a 46.97 in the 100 fly a week after his state meet, which would have broken the high school record. But he had already started to get back into training then, so he wasn’t at full strength even! If he had swam the fly at his state meet instead, I believe we would have seen something close to that 45.49 he posted in the 100 back. Crazy. I love how people question how he’ll do in long course though, where he’s just as good, if not even better! I think maybe the questions in long course come from the fact that he’s not THE absolute best, as he is in short course. In long course he all of a sudden gets compared to Phelps and Lochte and McGill and Plummer and Grevers, whereas in short course he’s compared to amateur swimmers his own age, and it’s just sort of a differen perspective than people are used to from him. He’s not as good as those guys…yet…but he doesn’t necessarily need to be either. David Nolan is swimming the 100 and 200 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, and 100 back, while Clay Youngquist is doing the 100/200/400 frees and 100/200 fly. I’m really excited to see what the top 2 recruits in the nation can do this summer! Also looking out for Chase Kalisz, 17, of NBAC to put up some faaasst times….
What is the competitive status of Dara Torres? Is she still gunning for London?
gosharks – she’s back in the water racing, already has her Trials cuts. Swam a 25.16 at Sette Colli in june – ranked 22nd in the world with the race yet to be swum at World’s.
Joe – I can’t wait to see what Nolan can do in the 100 fly. People put him as a backstroke/IM guy, because that’s what he broke the records in, but he’s also a phenomenal butterflier. Also want to see if Youngquist is a contender for the USOT in that 200, especially, for a relay spot.
