For the first time this season and the third time in his career, Navy water polo’s Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) was named the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week. The junior goalkeeper earned the honor twice last season.
Sandberg helped lead Navy to an 8-2 victory over George Washington on the road during the season opener for the Midshipmen. He earned the start at goal for the Mids and posted an impressive performance to earn the win. Sandberg recorded 13 saves, while surrendering just one goal in three and a half quarters of play.
Navy’s 8-2 victory marked the fewest goals allowed by the Mids since posting a 22-1 victory over La Salle on Sept. 4, 2016.
