The Fitter & Faster Swim Tour has announced the winner of its 2015 Age Group Coach of the Year Award: North Baltimore Aquatic Club’s Tom Himes.
This is the second annual edition of the award, which last year went to Dynamo Swim Club’s Associate Head Coach Beth Winkowski.
Himes is the Head Age Group Coach for North Baltimore, a club that recently put 6 swimmers on the U.S. National Team, plus several more NBAC alumni who are now competing for other clubs.
Fitter & Faster presented the award to Himes last night, with Olympians Matt Biondi and Kara Lynn Joyce joining Fitter & Faster founder David Arluck to hand out the award.
Fitter & Faster comes up with 10 finalists using the team rank function in USA Swimming’s Virtual Club Championship. An online poll for the general public selects the winner out of those 10 nominees.
The 10 finalists in 2015:
- Tom Himes, North Baltimore Aquatic Club
- Chris Natoli, Nation’s Capital Swim Club
- Keith Ure, King Aquatic Club
- Dave Greene, Rockville Montgomery
- Luba Pohilenco, Santa Clara Swim Club
- Ginny Nussbaum, Long Island Aquatics
- Raz Cuparencu, TACTitans
- Jack Maddan, Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club
- Bruce Smith, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics
- Kyle Myers, Marlins of Raleigh
Tom is one of the top coaches I’ve met and is willing to work or help anyone within the sport a true class act. Congrats
Swimsweep..get your facts straight before you post something such as you did. Coach Himes was in Colorado at the Age Group Summit when this very unfortunate event occurred. The swimmer was also a member of one of the NBAC senior practice groups. Really!!!!!!!
Really!!!
Wasn’t he the primary coach responsible for that drowning
No one is responsible for that drowning. Rip Louis
A terrific choice. He has great list of swimmers that he worked with in their formative age group days which goes way beyond what was mentioned in his presentation. He is firm and with great success.
