In an effort to continue long course training outside of the Olympic year, the No. 3/9 NC State swimming and diving team will head to Austin, Texas, for the Arena Pro Swim Series, hosted by USA Swimming Jan. 13-15 inside UT’s Texas Swim Center.

Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. and finals will commence at 7 p.m. ET. Live streaming via usaswimming.org will be available for all six sessions. The first two finals sessions will air live on NBC Sports Network and all three sessions will be streamed via NBC Sports.

Last Time At UT

The Wolfpack traveled to Texas for a dual meet on Nov. 4, as the men earned a 173.5-126.5 win and the women fell, 166.5-127.45.  The Longhorn men were ranked No. 2 in the national poll at the time and won the 2016 NCAA Championship title for the 12th time in program history. UT’s women were seventh in the rankings at the time both squads met.

Pack Olympian Presence

Three of NC State’s swimmers that competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro – Soren Dahl, Anton Ipsen and Ryan Held – will see action in the water this weekend.

Dahl competed on Denmark’s 4x200m freestyle relay, while Ipsen earned top 20 finishes in the 400m and 1500m free with Denmark. Held won a gold medal with USA’s 4x100m free relay.

You do know that some of the Longhorns didn’t swim that meet right? For example, Will Licon.

Some of the Longhorns? You do remember know that it was Schooling’s 1st meet back right? Okay, let’s talk stats…. Even with Will Licon in the meet and dominate the breast events, Texas would’ve still lost to NCSU. NCSU went 1-2-3-4 in the 100 br, 1-2-4 in the 200 breast, 1-4-5 in the 200 IM. Even if he swept all of these events, Texas would’ve not been able to over come NCSU.

The point it, it’s not about one person. It’s about overall team effort. NCSU’s depth showed up big that weekend and Texas’s did not. Am I saying NCSU is better than Texas? No! But they sure did beat them head to head.

Good day sir

I think NC State is better than Texas. They absolutely crushed them when they went head to head in a dual meet and have also posted faster times than them all year. Texas is only a good team because they are gifted talented individuals every year. Just wait for NCAA’s when the Pack thrown down some STATEments.

So if I asked you to bet $1000 on Texas (-95.5) vs NCSU total scores at NCAAs, you’d take it?

Not the point… my point is NC State beat Texas head to head. We all know Texas is a better team, but I would acknowledge that Texas got beat by NCSU, Indiana, and most likely UGA tomorrow.
