Louisville freshman Mallory Comerford, the ACC Champion in the 200 free and NCAA runner-up on Friday, has scratched the individual 100 free on Saturday to swim 5 relays instead. Comerford entered the meet as the 17th seed in the event.
Comerford, besides her finish in the 200 free, also took 8th place and First-Team All-America honors in the 500 free on the meet’s first day.
In previous 100 frees this week, she’s swum 47.84/47.33 as a 400 medley relay anchor. Louisville is seeded 13th in the 400 free relay in 3:14.86, though that time was done at the ACC Championships without Comerford swimming. If she swims close to the 47.3 that she did on the anchor leg of the 400 free relay, she alone could improve the relay by two seconds, which would be enough to get the Cardinals into the A-Final. Those points from the relay (relays are worth double) project to outscore her individual points regardless.
Louisville sits in 6th place, 20 points behind Virginia, entering the meet’s final day.
There were no other major pre-session scratches on day 4 of the meet. Heat sheets have not yet been made available online.
