NCAA Champ Nick McCrory Wraps Up FINA Diving World Cup

2014 NCAA platform national champion Nick McCrory competed in the finals of the men’s 3-meter springboard event Saturday, July 19 at the FINA Diving World Cup.

McCrory earned a spot in the 3-meter final with a fifth-place showing in the semifinal round Friday at the Oriental Sports Center. In Saturday’s final, the former Blue Devil standout came in 12th overall with a total award of 407.55.

The international competition was McCrory’s first since he joined fellow American David Boudia in capturing a bronze medal in men’s synchronized platform diving at the 2012 London Olympic Games. This week’s event also represented the first time in his senior international career that McCrory had competed in the individual 3-meter event.

Friday’s action in Shanghai also saw Duke junior Jaimee Gundry take to the platform in the women’s individual 10-meter event. Representing her home country of South Africa, Gundry garnered a score of 249.60 points to finish 24th in the preliminary round.

The FINA World Cup represents the top international meet of the 2014 season and is the last major world competition leading up to Olympic qualifying events next summer.
