These include both long and short-term goals that ensure growth, consistency, and fairness for student-athletes.

The committee approved multiple changes for Division I Championships that will be implemented in the 2016-2017 academic school year. These changes include:

  • Improved awards ceremonies
  • Creating gathering/meeting areas for family and friends at the finals sites
  • New requirements related to web streaming of preliminary-round competition

Committee members also outlined future goals that are designed to provide an improved championship experience for student-athletes while also enabling the growth of these events. These goals include:

  • Exploring models to maintain and enhance championships
  • Improving the quality of travel experience
  • Enhancing officiating training and development programs
  • Improving consistency and fairness of the experience
  • Improving the format and automatic qualification policies

The committee stated that they will continue to support the fundamental principle of access to championships, while still addressing increasing budget concerns, fluctuations in sport sponsorship and conference realignment. To read more, click here.
