NCAA Men’s Pick’em Contest Update Day 3

2017 MEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

View your entries here

After day 3 tomato has taken the lead in the pick’em contest. Tomato holds the slimmest of leads with 147.5 points to second place GoPios 147 points. Mr Chang is 3rd with 142.5 points. Yesterday’s leader djGrabes dropped to 20th. GoPios had the highest score on the day with 81 points.

As the daily winner, GoPios receives:

  • SwimSwam Magazine Subscription
  • FINIS Snapback Hat
  • Exclusive FINIS Fifth Stroke T-Shirt

Thanks to FINIS for sponsoring the contest.

If you’re curious how tomato ended up with half a point, the tie in the 200 free was scored as 4.5 points for a 2nd or 3rd place pick of either Blake Pieroni or Dylan Carter. If you’re looking at your entries in the spreadsheet, to make scoring easier, I replaced any picks of Blake Pieroni or Dylan Carter with their two names combined in the same cell, so it’s no longer possible to tell which of the two you picked.

The contest is still wide open at this point. There are huge chunks of points available in the team score prediction section that won’t be awarded until tomorrow and can cause large swings in the standings.

There were some surprises according to the picks on day 3. Only 7.5% of entries had Caeleb Dressel beating Joseph Schooling and winning the 100 fly. The other big favorites came through. 97.2% had Chase Kalisz in the 400 IM, 86.1% had Townley Haas in the 200 free, 84.7% had Will Licon in the the 100 breast, and 99.4% had Ryan Murphy in the 100 back. John Shebat of Texas was picked second in the 100 back by only .8% of entries. He was picked in the top 4 by 8.3%. Connor Hoppe of California was picked by 2.5% to finish in the top 4 in the 100 breast. Only 1 person picked Missouri 4th in the 200 medley relay
