There have been a number of entries into the NCAA transfer portal of late, with the majority of swimmers and divers pursuing options for next season, though some are looking to change schools imminently.
Two prominent female entries have come in the form of Gabby Dang and Janie Boyle, who have both confirmed they are pursuing their options for next season.
Both Dang and Boyle plan to utilize the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA to athletes who competed in the COVID-interrupted 2020-21 season.
Dang, a senior at UCLA, is a two-time NCAA qualifier and has made back-to-back Pac-12 Championship ‘A’ finals in the women’s 100 fly. She also established a personal best time of 52.00 in the event last month at the Ohio State Invitational.
Dang told SwimSwam she will finish the season with the Bruins and then look elsewhere to pursue a graduate degree in an area related to the medical field.
Boyle, a senior diver at Texas, placed fourth in the platform event at the 2022 Women’s NCAA Championships, and also finished 12th in the event in 2021.
Like Dang, she will close out the season with her current team before pursuing medical school. Boyle said she intends on getting a Masters or graduate certificate in clinical informatics next season before ultimately going to medical school, and while she loves the Longhorns, the school doesn’t offer the program she’s looking for.
“I am so grateful for my time at Texas and I would not be the student or the athlete I am today without the people I’ve met during my time here,” Boyle told SwimSwam.
“Matt (Scoggin) is truly one of the best coaches I’ve ever had and I’m so thankful for him and my incredible teammates.”
