Of the 11 teams scheduled for women’s swimming in the MPSF next season, 8, including Pepperdine, are in the state of California. Last year, though, was the first time the MPSF held their championship meet outside of the state – taking the swimming portion of the meet to Utah Tech in St. George, California.
Hawaii’s women won last year’s title, beating-out the defending champions from UCSD by 169.5 points under first year head coach Mike Stephens.
The conference championship also includes 8 men’s teams, though Pacific doesn’t sponsor men’s swimming & diving.
Pepperdine’s women won the PCSC Championship last season. That is a multi-division conference that included just one other NCAA D1 team: Loyola Marymount.
The MPSF will mark a significant step-up in competition from the PCSC, though. Pepperdine’s 200 free relay, which won last year’s PCSC title, would have been 6th at the MPSF Championships. All of their other relays would have been 8th-or-lower, including two other PCSC title-winning quartets.
